General Category Strategy
📊 Understanding UR (Unreserved) Competition
General category faces highest competition as it's open for all candidates regardless of category.
Key Points:
- No rank relaxation - pure merit-based admission
- Competition from all categories (reserved candidates can also compete in General)
- Focus on maximizing rank to compete effectively
- Strategic choice filling becomes even more important
Our Strategy for General Category:
- Focus on emerging branches: AI/ML, Data Science where cutoffs are still developing
- Consider newer IITs/NITs: Lower cutoffs, good placements
- Branch flexibility: Don't be rigid about "core" branches only
- Geography diversity: Apply to colleges in less preferred locations for better chances
- Home State Quota: Utilize home state quota wherever applicable
💡 Special Note: General category students should explore EWS eligibility. If family income < ₹8 lakhs, you may qualify for EWS quota.
OBC-NCL Category Guidance
📋 OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes - Non Creamy Layer)
Certificate Requirements:
- Validity: Certificate must be issued on or after April 1, 2025 for 2025-26 admissions
- Issuing Authority: Tehsildar/SDM/District Magistrate
- Caste: Must be in Central OBC list (not just state list)
- NCL Clause: Must explicitly mention "Non-Creamy Layer"
- Income Limit: Gross family income < ₹8 lakhs per year
Benefits:
- 27% reservation in All India Quota
- State-specific OBC reservation (varies by state)
- Significantly lower cutoffs compared to General category
- Example: IIT rank 10,000 (Gen) ≈ 14,000-15,000 (OBC) for same college-branch
Our OBC-NCL Strategy:
- Don't hesitate to fill top IITs/NITs - you have better chances
- Include premium branches (CS/AI/EC) in choice list
- Mix of old and new IITs/NITs for safety
- Utilize both AI quota and Home State quota strategically
⚠️ Common Mistake: Many OBC students' certificates get rejected because they have State OBC caste but not in Central list. Always verify your caste is in Central OBC list on NCL website before counselling.
