JEE Counselling Process 2026

Step 1: JoSAA Registration

First step is to register on the JoSAA official website using your JEE Main/Advanced rank and roll number. You need to:

Step 2: Choice Filling

This is the most crucial step where you select colleges and branches in order of preference. Our expert counselling helps you:

Why Choice Filling Strategy Matters?

A wrong choice order can result in getting a lower preference college even when you qualify for better options. Our data-driven strategy uses previous year cutoffs, opening/closing ranks, and seat matrix analysis to maximize your chances of getting the best college.

Step 3: Seat Allotment

JoSAA conducts 6 rounds of seat allotment based on your choices, rank, and seat availability. In each round:

  1. Check allotment status on JoSAA portal
  2. If seat is allotted, you have 3 options:
    • Accept & Freeze: Confirm this seat (no further participation)
    • Accept & Float: Accept this seat but participate in next rounds for upgrades
    • Slide: Only accept if you get better choice (within same institute)
  3. Pay seat acceptance fee

Step 4: Document Verification

After final seat allotment, you need to report to the allotted institute with original documents:

Step 5: Final Admission

Complete the admission formalities at the institute including payment of semester fees, hostel registration, and document submission.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: What is the difference between JoSAA and CSAB counselling?

Answer: JoSAA is the main counselling process with 6 rounds for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. CSAB special rounds are conducted after JoSAA for remaining vacant seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs only (not IITs).

Q2: Can I participate in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced counselling?

Answer: Yes, if you qualify both exams, you can participate in JoSAA counselling for all IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs based on your better rank.

Q3: What is the difference between Accept & Freeze and Accept & Float?

Answer: Accept & Freeze means you confirm the allotted seat and won't participate in further rounds. Accept & Float means you accept current seat but can still get upgraded to better choices in next rounds.

Q4: How many choices should I fill in JoSAA?

Answer: You can fill unlimited choices, but we recommend filling at least 80-100 choices covering Dream (top choices), Good (realistic options), and Safe (backup options) colleges.

Q5: What if I don't get any seat in JoSAA?

Answer: You can participate in CSAB special rounds. You can also apply for state counselling, private college admissions, or attempt JEE again next year.

Q6: Is counselling fee refundable?

Answer: Seat acceptance fee is refundable if you don't get any seat or withdraw before specified deadline. Registration fee is generally non-refundable.
